I was lucky enough to see Curl Up and Die once before they broke up. I got into this band because I saw the track listing for their album Unfortunately We’re Not Robots, and saw that they had a song called “Dr. Doom, A Man of Science, Doesn’t Believe in Jesus, Why the Fuck Should You?” and thought to myself that I have to see what these dudes are all about. Dug the tunes they were laying down and been a fan ever since.
One day, three or four years ago, I was at a comic book convention in Rosemont, IL called Wizard World. I was wearing this shirt, and a lady comes up to me, and says nice shirt and tells me her roommate designed it and the art work that the print is from. I tell her that’s cool and all that good stuff, because it really was and what a small world. Then, she’s like, “Hey, would you like to meet the lead singer?” Which threw me off, because it was entirely random, so I’m all “Sure, thinking I’m going to have to go on some journey to see him in the convention center”. She leans over to the other side of a rack of comics goes “Hey, Mike, come here a sec.” And there he was, just browsing comics. I tell him I dug his band and how unfortunate they broke up and all this stuff and he was nice and shit, and we went our separate ways. Such a strange random encounter to run into the singer of a band from Las Vegas.
Bee and I remember meeting this dude. He was awesome! The world’s a small place.
